You're Not a Mistake
Jeremiah 1:5 says "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations"
God says he knew you before he formed you in your mother's womb. Before I even begin to get into this let me point out that God said HE "formed you" meaning you were planned, you are not a mistake. You are not a result of chance or failed contraception. You are not an accident or the result of some drunken fumble in the sack. Whatever the numerous colloquial terms are for an unplanned pregnancy, they do not apply to you. If you are on this planet you are a result of God's planning. Do not ever let anyone tell you any different because God almighty said he formed you in your mother's womb.
So, what does it mean to know someone? Well the dictionary defines the word "knew" as the following:
- To perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty
- To have established or fixed in the mind or memory
- To be cognizant or aware of
- To be acquainted with as by sight, experience, or report
- To understand from experience or attainment
- To be able to distinguish as one from another
So if we put this together it means God perceived you as fact, having fixed you in his mind being cognizant of you, acquainted with you, understanding you and able to distinguish you from everyone else. This is all packed into that one word. Can anyone really tell me any one of us was an accident?
God takes it one step further, he says that he "set you apart" meaning he sanctified you for his purpose. The same way that God did with the Levites he has set you apart for a great and wonderful purpose. This means you were designed and created with purpose. There was something God designed you to accomplish and he allowed whatever circumstance created you to happen that you may come into this world to fulfil the purpose for which he designed you.
I've met so many people that don't believe they have any real purpose. How wrong they are. How this world has misinformed them and deceived them. That sort of thinking has come from years of people wearing them down and telling them they are less than what they really are. How I wish they knew what God says about them. It excites me when I read this scripture because it lets me know that there is something great living in me. There is some untapped potential that is waiting to be released. If I stay connected with and release the desire of God over my life this untapped potential will come out and amazing things will happen.
David says in the book of Psalms "I thank you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:14). Knowing that God made you, took his time to design and form you should make you proud. Walk with your head up high knowing that you are a unique creation. Become acquainted with that fact and truth. Make it your centre and seek out what God has planned for you in his word. Get to know the God who took his time to know you and form you in your mothers womb. He wants and intimate friendship with you. His plans for you are of good and not evil (Jeremiah 29:11). Get to know this God who desires to know you deeper and wants to share his plans with you.
In the days of old, there was a veil, a barrier which meant the Levites (the priests whom God had set apart for his service) could enter into the presence of God. People had to constantly bring sacrifices and burnt offerings to atone for sin. Then God, in the biggest act of love, sent his son to die that we may be restored to him. His blood set us free, paid the price, cleansed and continues to cleanse us from sin. When Christ Jesus died, the veil was torn in two (Mark 15:38) opening the doorway into the presence of God. This meant that from that point those who were now set free by the Jesus Christ could come freely to God. You have direct access to God because of Christ Jesus, use it and get to know the God who knew you before he formed you.
Blessings and love.
